Tire size question
My wheels finally arrived . 17x8 and 17x10 Coddington Smoothie 2's. I intended to run a 255/55/17 front (28 inches tall ) and 275/60/17 rear (30 inches ) . The tire I have mounted on the rear is a 275/55/17 and I thought about running it with a 255/50/17 front . I think the 275/55 is 29 inches and a 255/50 is about 27 . What do you think ? Which size combo? The pics were taken in the dark so they arent very good .

Re: Tire size question
2 in. differece is about right.
I have tt2,s 255x50x17 on front & 275x50x17 on rear. with 5.5 backspacing on both. front wheel well is pretty full ( in fact a little scrubbing on hard turns) on rear I HAVE ROOM TO GROW . think I SHOULD BE AT 4.5 backspacing for this size of tire with an approx. 6.5 in drop front is 5.5 in. drop Love your choice of wheels ( sure they were real cheap. ) what is the backspacing - looks like 3.5 - 4 |

Re: Tire size question
Slugish , got any pics of them on ? I would like to see them . The wheels are 4.5 inch backspace front and rear . I like some sidewall since my truck wont be too low . Like on my tan one . I have been looking for a tire with matching tread patterns front and rear . Goodyears RS-A comes in a 255/55/17 and 275/60/17 but are $192 and $154 each . General has a 255/50/17 at$114 and a 275/55/17 at $136 . Not much difference but there is a diff .

Re: Tire size question
Frank,... here's my old Nitto 450 tires mounted on 17x8 (5" BS) and 17x9.5 (4.5"BS). The fronts are 255/50-17's and the rears are 275/50-17's. The Nitto 450's wear and drive good (and are relatively cheap!) Hope this helps.

Re: Tire size question
Frank, those are freakin awesome. I think you went the "right" way with the 17's, as much as I would have liked to sell you the 20's, I think those will look REAL nice!

Re: Tire size question
Thanks for the pics for reference . I think I want the tire between lolife99 and Classic87's in height for the front so I ordered 255/55/17 and 275/60/17's today . I wanted the same height seperation as I had with the 18's . They were 29/31 front to back . These will be 28/30 front to back but the difference is in the wheel diameter . I had a friend order them today . Hopefully here by Monday . I am going to try to order the spindles and coil springs for the front and the drop leafs for the rear . The front will be a 3.5 inch total drop and the rear with the leafs and shackles will be 5 inches . We will see how it turns out . I will probably order the spindles from Sporttruckdirect unless someone can suggest a better place to get Western Chassis components .

Re: Tire size question
Those are some spendy tires. My dad has them on his BMW X5.

Re: Tire size question
My truck is lowered, but I am running 255/50/17s on the front of my 84 GMC and 275/50/17s on the rear. The front rims are Billet Specialties "Qualifier" 17 X 8" and the rears are 17 X 9.5.
You are right the 255/50s are a27" tire and the 275/50s are a 28" tire. |

Re: Tire size question
I bought the same sizes I listed but found a cheaper tire through my tire/wheel guy . I will save about $350 on the set so I went with them . I hope the tires look good when they get here because I am a little nutty about the sidewall appearance . But at a savings of $350 , I decided to give it a try . I could have saved myself a lot of grief and went with a different size for the front but I think this will look the best . I ordered the spindles and drop leafs today . My coilsprings ,spindles, tires, and rear leafs are all ordered . I will be posting pics when the parts start goiong on the truck .
