Exactly. After checking the wiring, especially grounds, take the switch apart and clean the contacts. My 78 did the exact thing and it ended up being a ground wire (Can't remember where), and a piece of the foam that seals the switch had fell off and got in the contacts. It's really simple to rebuild the switch, just take it apart slow because there are small springs inside.
