how to restore faded door panels on '75?
Though I haven't posted in a long time,I pop in to read the 67-72 site posts occasionally (spend most time on my 66 chevelle footbraker, member of Team Chevelle).I just acquired a 75 c-10 for a backup to my 69 c-10(daily driver, tow vehicle for the chevelle).I just can't bring myself to buy a new vehicle(I want to be able to do whatever I wish to my cars w/o government interference). So now I have another project on my hands(also Fiero,S-10;not shown in my signature);I need to do minor interior cosmetics to the 75 to get my wife to allow it to stay(and get her to use it). That's why I need to know if the faded plastic door panels are either restoreable, paintable,or replaceable? And the cracked dash recoverable? And is there a source for the gauge and speedo plastic (now opaque).I only have sources for parts for my other cars, not for this new kid on the block. And what later models might be donors for interior components,if any?Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

working on it.
Check out this post I did a few months back. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ub...ML/000086.html I just redid mine this weekend again. I did them over in preparation to enter my truck in a local show. I will be entering the full size unfinished catagory. I could not get the picture to load up. I will post new pics from home. ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ [This message has been edited by gchemist (edited 07-16-2001).] [This message has been edited by gchemist (edited 07-16-2001).] |

Thanks for your responses.I too will probably glue a dashcover over the old,and just paint over the faded panels(but how durable and scratch resistant??).But my immediate concern is the unreadable gauges!I don't think the opacity will polish out.Can I just pull the dash panel, lenses, etcetera off of another 73-87 c-10 with gauges? Having no experience with these years,I don't know which have similar dash layouts.Any references??

73-87 should interchange on the plastic lense. The Mequires stuff works pretty well. I can send you a 73-87 link list to alot of suppliers I have accumulated, and if you want, I can check to see if I have a plastic lense if you can't find one where you are.

CaptKaos-I would appreciate the list of suppliers via e-mail.If the instrument panels are so similar,73-87,then I should have little problem finding a salvaged piece to interchange.Anyhow,I got the truck running Sunday(rebuilt the HEI,a little wiring repair),and will drive it home Saturday after the seller removes his tools, and sorta details it.I will try polishing the lenses first, then I may take you up on your offer.Thanks.

working on it,
If you plan on restoring your truck I would go with a new dash. I did and don't regret it. I'll post some pics for you. I'm in the middle of making changes to my web page for a truck show this weekend. I'll be adding some pics of the painted door panels and dash. ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |
