GM factory manual (series 10-60 MODELS) specifies
Quote:
"Multi-Purpose" gear lubricant meeting U.S. Army Ord. Spec. MIL-L-2105-B is recommended....
SAE 80 below 10 deg. SAE 90 up to 100,SAE140 above 100 consistantly.
I use 80/90 wt.

I have been switching everything over to synthetic over the past 5 years. AMSOIL 75-90. I cant boast anthing except it shifted smoother right off the bat. Time will tell I'm sure.

This is interesting... I was going to use Royal Purple synthetic in my Tremec TKO... however even Tremec recomends GM Synchromesh. so there you go.

API GL-5 gear oil covers MIL-L-2105-B specs. I use a 85-140W here in TX due to the heat.

I've been running the 85W-140 to help slow down the leaks. Which tranny is in your C-50?

I don't know, to tell you the truth. It is a 4-speed with a PTO. The gear pattern is 1 and 2 on the top and R, 3 , 4 on the bottom. It is behind a 292 inline 6. Does that help any?
