Re: dana 44 id help

610036-3 is a front 44 from a '78 half ton truck or Blazer.

It came open with 3.73 gears.

Re: dana 44 id help

Does it have a tag on one of the diff cover bolts? If you want to be 100% sure then pull the cover off and read the numbers on the ring gear 41:11 = 3.73 (just divide the numbers to get your ratio. Every diff could use some fresh oil anyway...

Re: dana 44 id help

thats exactly what I needed to know thanks! I didn't see a tag on the thing anywhere but someone has been in it before so I need to pull the covers to make sure they are the same.So should I assume the 12 bolt out back probably came from the same 78 truck/blazer?

Re: dana 44 id help

i'm not sure when the 12bolt rear merged over to the 10bolt. I have heard that the dana44 went to corp10 bolt front in 77 or so though.

very similar axles with a lot of matching parts, not all though...

Re: dana 44 id help

The 12 bolt is probably from the same truck. The switch from the 12 bolt to the 10 bolt in the rear was not until 1981. GM did start using front 10 bolts in '77, but a lot of '78s still got Dana 44s.
