Crossover AND high steer for my 84 SWB

I am building a 84ish SWB.... I got a dana 44 in front and 14blt in rear.. Truck is completly exploded right now. as this is going to be a trail/mud truck only... mostly mud but I want to do some off roading in it as well. I want to know whats the best way to go as far as making it high steer and crossover... any sugestions?? I searched and came up with some good info on crossover conversion but nothing for high steer. I'll post some pics of my pile of parts later...THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Cross over can be done as long as your d44 has flat tops knuckles. All the high steers that i have seen have been on d60.Colorado k5 has allot on this. You can do a rear or front high steer.

I seen somewhere, I'm sure I can find it, where I could buy a bolt in knuckle for the passenger side... I'll have to find it.

ORU has the knuckle for about 350.

Get a set of flat top arms from Parts Mike or ORD and move your steering up. Really pretty simple.

This is how your knuckles should look with the arms on them. These are for sale too, PM me if interested.

Re: Crossover AND high steer for my 84 SWB

I would think real hard about investing in a full crossover/highsteer conversion to a D44. If you plan on lots of engine power you may want to step up to a D60 front...sucks to have all that money in a D44 when you start braking it with hard offroading or high RPM mudding...just something to think about...

Here is my D60 X-over w/highsteer & Hydro Assist:

Re: Crossover AND high steer for my 84 SWB

one day, if I ever take it that far, i would like to go up to a 38-40in tire... but for now, I am running a 35-36in tire and I think the dana 44 will hold up fine for what I am doing. But one day if I am decide to go bigger, then yes...I will have to bite the big one and get a d60...

I have 36" tires and last year I destroyed a Dana 44. I upgraded to a Dana 60 and sadly last weekend I broke a D60 axle too! Granted, I do some aggressive hill climbing and I dont baby my truck. I was close to investing in a crossover kit and a locker on the D44, glad I didnt. If things go for you as they do for most of us...you will keep wanting to go bigger, better, stronger, ect... might as well start with a D60.
