First timer with a question

This is my first time posting. I am from Salado, TX and working on a 1959 Chevy truck. I am keeping the straight front axle, which I have had lowered and want to keep the stock steering box. I am putting in a 454 and cannot get the headers or the stock manifolds to clear the steering box. Any suggestions?

I would look into getting some fenderwell headers. Just a thought.

A set of tight tuck headers that dump in the center might help.

I've seen some trucks with the engine offset to the passenger side a bit to clear the steering.

I've also seen the steering box offset to the outside for clearance.
This is a bit ugly but used to be the norm on the 48/54 trucks with stock suspension and steering and a V8 installation.

I think your best bet is to look into the tight tuck headers or hunt a bit and see if you can find a manifold that dumps further forward. There are a lot of different manifolds made for different applications for these engines. I think I would start by looking at what is available for big trucks.

If you can weld them yourself, do custom headers or maybe have them done. I had similar issues with my SBC and used Sanderson Cast iron headers that hugged the small block. I'm pretty sure most guys who go BIG block have the ame problem you will. You may have to get the inner fenders cut as well.

I did the below for my steering problems but tigh tuck header are the easiest if you don't want to weld up header tubes. Its just like doing body panels but round ones.
