Re: dana 44 drum to disc conversion
Even if there is a kit to do this and retain the closed knuckle housing.....why would you want to? A conversion kit would cost more than just using an entire later-model axle...plus you would be stuck with those "special" parts for replacements later. Besides, an open knuckle axle will turn in a tighter radius anyway.

I could be wrong, but I think all you need are the backing plates, spindles, rotor's, and hubs off of a disc brake dana 44 or 10bolt

Re: dana 44 drum to disc conversion
Oops, bad reading, or lack of reading I guess? Sorry.
It is as simple of a swap as changing everyting from the ball-joints...out. Everything, including the outer half of the axle shaft. Realistically, you need a donor axle to swipe all of these parts from. It is still a lot of work, when a total housing switch is far easier. You just have to match the ratios up. |

He will need the knuckles also. The disc brake backing plate bolt pattern is indexed different than the drum backing plates. That axle also has the small u-joints. |

Re: dana 44 drum to disc conversion
It's the spidle, hub, backing plate that is needed. Not sure on the axle though but i'm pretty sure the knuckles are the same
Just find a matching ratio axle on Ebay or Junkyard ($200 max?) and bolt it right in... Or swap the parts... Much less hassle removing four U-bolts the the rest of the swap will take.. but... I have seen it done, let me find the link.. here you go http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~i6735189/di...conversion.htm
