Dana 20

Ok guys, new to the site... I just bought a 1970 blazer with a 350/465 but it appears to have a dana 20 instead of the 205. I have heard of these cases appearing in blazers from 69-73ish but i wasn't aware that the came with v8 trucks. Anyone ever seen this setup? Also, how strong is the dana 20? I really dont think i need to swap in 1 205 as i will only be doing light wheeling but I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Another reason for wanting to keep the dana is that a PO put a pto unit with a ramsey 8k winch on it.

Re: Dana 20

I am thinking that the Dana 20 didn't have PTO provisions - is your PTO attached to the tranny or the t-case? If the transfer case is working correctly, there is no reason to swap it out. The D20 is plenty strong for normal use behind a V-8. The 465/D20 combo was pretty common in Blazers/Jimmys and was used behind all the motors. For some reason, some Blazers got 465/205 combos also - a '72 I parted out came that way.

Re: Dana 20

D20's a decent t-case that can handle a fair bit of power.

They do have PTO provisions. Of course, a NP205 does as well.

Ok, thaks guys. I think I'm gonna go ahead and stick with the dana 20 but does anyone know a good parts supply place for them? If I decide to take the pto off where can i get a cover for the port?? Lots of info on the jeep version but very little on chevys and I am not sure whether the case design is identical or not. thanks

Don't know of too many people on here with the Dana 20, but there is at least one member. You might want to become a subscribing member and post a want to trade post in the classified - someone might be interested in buying your pto and trading their pto cover as part of the deal.
