What front diff is this?
Hi, I want to make sure before I run off and buy some parts that I am sure what diff this is. I am by no means an expert and would appreciate the information.

Re: What front diff is this?
looks like a GM Corp 10 bolt, nearly the same as a dana 44 except for the inner pumpkin. I have one on my truck from an 82 K-10...
here's a chart http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml

Re: What front diff is this?
what parts are you getting?
I also found that the brake calipers look the same as dana 44 but changed to metric banjo bolt at some point.. The outer drive shafts are the same but the inners are different length and spline count. I say all this because I used 3 (2 x 44's and my corp 10 it already had 3.73 so I stuck with it.) axles to build mine!

Re: What front diff is this?
I am going to replace wheel studs (missing two), bearings, ball joints, the leaky gasket and check out the insides and replace whatever I find needs it.
I bought the truck in May and haven't had a chance to do much to the drivetrain. It drives great, so I started on the bodywork. I just painted it, so now I can spend the winter playing with getting the mechanicals squared away. Thank you again for the help. This board is my online encyclopedia for these trucks. ![]() |

Re: What front diff is this?
Hopefully the inner seals aren't leaking... If that's the case then you will have to pull the carrier out of it. Looks like you also have a front sway bar... what year is your truck?
Can you get me a pic of the crossmember that the sway bar hooks to? I'm adding one to my 68...(no sway bars until 73+ i think)

Re: What front diff is this?
It is a 1974 k10.
Is there anyway to tell if it is the inner seals without opening it up? I will get you pics of the sway bar, but it will probably be tomorrow as it gets dark here soon and I am not home yet. Here is a link to some recent pics: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=293926 Last edited by Traction; 10-20-2008 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: What front diff is this?
If there is oil coming out the ends of the axle tube then it's the inner seals... If not then just be careful pulling the axle shafts out, they seal near the pumpkin....
74 would explain the swaybar but not the corp10, someone changed it then...

Re: What front diff is this?
That's good news...it is definitely not leaking from the ends.
Being a 74 usually means a 44, that is why I was checking on which front diff I had. Thanks again. |

Re: What front diff is this?
If it's leaking from the yoke then you need a new pinion seal, not that hard to fix but you have to pull the yoke off...
good luck
