Need Tilt Info from the Experts...I'm confused? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok...just when I thought I knew enough to be dangerous about our trucks...a curve ball is tossed. As most of you know my 70cst has been in the body shop getting a transformation. This is where I am now confused after reading some recent post. I have installed a tilt wheel in my truck...I know the steering column is black on all tilts...but...here is where I am confused: Were the steering wheels all black too or could they match the color of the interior. My interior is Dark Olive Green...so...could my steering wheel be green or black? Or would it have to be black. I am thinking off taking off my Gant wheel and going back to the factory wheel but I am not sure which would be factory correct. Thanks for your replies.

Yes...that is the question. Did the tilt steering "wheels" match the color of the interior or were they all black? Ok all..."STEER" me in the right direction. I am starting to feel FLUSHED.

I can honestly say I learn something new and useful every time I visit this board. Been wondering the same thing since mine has factory tilt, and was getting ready to rip the aftermarket steering wheel off it and go back to stock.

Me 3...I am pretty sure that I am going to take off my Grant wheel and go back with the stock look. I will now go with a black steering wheel to be used with my tilt column. Thanks all for educating me. It is greatly appreciated!!

I could neverr go with a stock wheel personally, they are just too friggen big. That has been one of the first things to come off every truck I have owned.

Isn't the 67-68 wheel slightly smaller? It seems like it is. I wonder why GM went to seemingly bigger steering wheel. I always just put a 67 or 68 wheel on there. I like the feel of them better.

The wheel always matches the column.Sorry I wasn`t more clear.

I don`t understand how the original wheels can bother anyone.One of the first things I do is pull tacky aftermarket and later-model truck wheels off and put the one that belongs back.Trucks have bigger steering wheels because they are trucks.Power steering is an option and a loaded truck with big truck tires steers alot easier with a larger steering wheel.
When I bought my`55 wagon had a smaller metalflake green Superior wheel on it that someone likeed better than the big original wheel.I spent alot of time searching and mucho dinero getting the "right" wheel back on there.It bothered the crap out of me until I got that done.
A bigger than today`s standard steering wheel is part of driving older vehicles.It`s cool to give them more modern conveniences and characteristics.But,I like the original controls in my hands for that vintage experience.

I could neverr go with a stock wheel personally, they are just too friggen big. That has been one of the first things to come off every truck I have owned.
