Spedo cable - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can someone tell me how to change out the spedo cable? Do I need to take it completely out/off? I've tried to take it off from underneath, but it's pretty tight, that's why I'm not sure if it is to come off or not.

Oops. I just noticed that was the throttle cable. Maybe someone can tell me where the spedo cable is??

The speedo cable runs through the floor board/firewall and into the back of the dash assembly. It screws into the back of the speedometer/odometer and must be removed at this location, as well as the transmission, in order to replace.

You may save yourself some frustration by removing the engine dash gauge assembly.

Thanks for the info. Does this mean I have to take out the trim piece around my dash and then pull the dash guages out towards me to get to the spedo cable?
Also, my gas guage doesn't work either. What would you suggest I do? The PO had a new gas tank installed and the wiring coming off the tank looks to be in good condition. He said it was working until a few days before I came to pick it up, then it stopped working. I don't know??

If you remove the screws in the trim ring the entire insterment cluster can be removed as you said. Also I would check to see that your ground wire for the fuel sending unit has a good connection. Most likely this is the problem for the fuel gauge not working since the PO did replace the fuel tank. Good Luck
