Hello from Amarillo, Texas

Hey Guys,

Been "lurking" for a while now and finally registered a few days ago. Been soaking up the wealth of information here.

I grew up with these old trucks. Brings back the memories of high school. Have been wanting to buy and build up one the way I want it for a few years now and finally bit the bullet.

After a few months of looking, I found one locally at Vintage auto car lot. After some negotiating, we agreed on a price about half what he was asking and here she is:

<img src="http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m291/good_gawd/silverado/f2ea_3.jpg">

Not too bad for restoring. The motor and driveline are in decent shape, though the motor will be rebuilt and tranny checked.

I wish I could say I'll be doing all the forthcoming work, but it's not possible in terms of time or space. We live in a newer home on a small lot and half our garage is taken up by the wife's junk we've toted around for years. The other half houses her Saturn Vue.

I have a friend down in Lubbock that owns a Corvette parts and accessories company with a huge shop. Things have been a little slow for him, so he's going to put one of his guys on the truck for the project. Works out well for both of us. I do plan on going down for a few days at a time, several times a month to help out.

We're going to strip her down to the frame. Sandblast it and other parts we can salvage off it, rust protect, chassis black, then start building it up.

Here's a list of the work planned:
  • Rebuild original 350 motor for performance (350hp) and reliability for daily driver.
  • Upgrade brake system.
  • Lower with spindles. 3/4 drop
  • Brake upgrade.
  • Rally wheels (I like the old style look, just concerned about clearance with drop kit)
  • Cab sandblasted, rust protect, do any patching needed and repaint.
  • New dashpad (looking for NOS OEM if anyone has one for reasonable price)
  • Sound mat.
  • New carpet/jute.
  • New bezel and gauges as needed.
  • Stereo system (probably the last to go in)
  • New bucket seats.

I've ordered new fenders, inner and outer. Doors are next on the list. Been looking high and low for some good door panels. We plan to use high quality dye on everything to match up the interior. I do need some new interior plastic trim. Previous owner mounted some tweeters into the plastic trim behind the door towards the top, and I want to keep everything as clean as possible.

Hopefully in 3-4 months we'll have her finished and can realize a dream that's been burning in the back of my mind for several years now!

Still trying to determine the final color. I was leaning towards an admiral blue, like this one:

Beautiful truck! A little lower than I would go, but a really nice clean look. Also considering going with silver or pewter. Love black, but it's too much for the dusty climate we have here.

Thanks for reading my intro. Really looking forward to making some new friends here and once things kick off, will be posting a build thread to show progress.

Hey welcome to the greatest board around from MT. Sounds like you got some good stuff planned for the truck. It should look good when you get it finished up looks like its in pretty good condition to start out with too.
