Re: 5.3 barbecue motor
Looks like toast to me. I'd give $100 for the engine block/heads just for core value. Looks like everything else is melted. Looks like some serious heat that was on it. There's no telling what burned up on the inside, let alone all the aluminum pieces. JMO

Re: 5.3 barbecue motor
Keep looking... good condition 5.3's can be had cheap just start calling around to the local junkyards.. the most important thing is to get ALL the wiring then send it out or try and sort the junk wires out yourself...

Looks like a boat anchor to me. Who knows how warped the parts are. Keep looking and save yourself the money.

Re: 5.3 barbecue motor
That block, heads, etc, etc is so hard from the heat (and I am sure subsequent dousing from the firehose/water), that it'll be brittle (heat metal then cool quickly to increase metals hardness, unfortunately hardness also means brittle {think breaking glass!}) Do you want a rod to shatter while you're going down the freeway at 70-80 MPH??? Like the others have said, 5.3's are the red-hedded step child (that and the 4.8 moreso), of the LS series engines and there were millions made. Hold out, i'd bet you could get a complete motor/trans, wiring, comp, etc for less than they want for that piece of scrap iron?

Re: 5.3 barbecue motor
How are you gonna get all that bad stuff off of there??? It seems like the plastic has melted all over the bolts, etc...looks like too much trouble. Like burnt toast, just throw it in the trash and start over.

Re: 5.3 barbecue motor
Another vote to keep looking - that deal would probably be more trouble than it is worth....no telling what all is bad in it.
