Started the K30 dually resurrection
After 6 monthes sitting in the driveway, finding a parts truck with a good frame, and a good dually bed, decided to take the rusty state truck K30 apart. Only one day's work. It helps to have a forklift. Today got new Ubolts and U joints, got the back rear out and ready to reverse the project into the "new" frame. What a diffence working a whole day on something versus 30 minutes here and there. Its an addiction not a hobby. Next!

I have never seen a frame with rust like that. Looks like you have a good start. Good luck..

I've seen it go all the way through a frame before.

Re: Started the K30 dually resurrection
Update: got the axles (new Ubolts, repaced broken springs) in, replaced rusted brakelines, and got engine/trans back in the "new" frame". Now to get it out of the drive for Easter!

Re: Started the K30 dually resurrection
Excellent project! I'm sorta partial to the dually's though.
What are your intentions out back? Wood, or steel? Fences? Keep us posted! I agree with vintagesteel - the fork lift makes it entirely too easy

Re: Started the K30 dually resurrection
Dually bed (a newer, 87, and better one) is going on the back. Forklifts make truck life a WHOLE lot easier.

Re: Started the K30 dually resurrection
Update; well, I didn't get it together by Easter, but got it running again today (Mother's Day). Learned a few things. Was able to use the complete dual exhaust system from the donor frame even though it was a diesel. Used the diesel tank, just had to change the filler neck in the bed. Donor frame had a 14 FF, this has a Dana 70, one has wedges at leaf spring mount to axle, one doesn't. Bed wiring connectors from frame rail to bed harness are different, 83 has blade type, 87 bed had newer 4 prong style. Emergency brake cables are different on an 83 than an 85. Bed mount bolts are still available from GM. Heater core is much easier to change when front end is off, as are exhaust gasket donuts. Now to bleed the brakes, put the seat back in, attach the bumpers, etc.
