Exclamation Leaking around windshield

Its also leaking under the dash from a big rain we had in NC. Does anyone have pics of this that may have happened to their truck or even some rough truck builds??? Its real bad on the passengers side and it leaks a little on the drivers side under the dash and around the windshield.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Re: Leaking around windshield

Mine does the same thing. I was thinking it was a windshield gasket, but when I posted it many members thought there was rot in the area under the gasket. I think they were right. I tried to seal it with clear RTV and it didn't help a bit. Mine only leaked if it rained really hard.

it leaks really bad on the passengers side and a decent amount on the drivers side.

Re: Leaking around windshield

So does mine, I'm going to pull the glass, repair any rust I find and get new rubber. The current one is rock hard and the previous owner has tried to seal it with silicone

Re: Leaking around windshield

While I'm sure it is leaking through the glass gasket, your main leak is probably under the cowl. VERY common for the seam sealer to dry and crack letting lotsa water in. Every truck I've owned had this issue.

Re: Leaking around windshield

Mine was leaking where the antena wire goes in the cab under the cowl. I siliconed it up and the leak was fixed, to bad I found it after it wasted my rocker.

Re: Leaking around windshield

Sometimes you can take a cotter pin removal tool and gently lift the rubber from the inside and see if there is any rust in the pinchweld area.If there is, it needs to be fixed. My experience has shown that a new gasket is very helpful to fix the problem if it is the gasket, remember these trucks are 40 or so years old. That rubber gets real hard and shrinks and cracks over time.Good luck.

Re: Leaking around windshield

Mine was doing the same, I was sealing something one day and figured what the hay. With finger and black RTV I mushed and smoothed all the way around. No more leaky and looks good too. I love it when a plan comes togeather.

Re: Leaking around windshield

There are a couple seams where the cab was pieced together that the seam sealer dries up and cracks, that always leak. They are located under the Cowl and are about 6 inches in from each side. There also are seams above the windshield at the same locations that are prone to leaking. Using Black RTV in a caulk gun to seal around the windshield gasket (inside and outside) helps as well. But truthfully, this is only temperary and sooner or later you need to pull the windsheild and fix the seams and install a new gasket.
