How about if he rigged it up like some of the newer car doors? I remember pulling the panel off of my 92Skylark back when I had it and it had lots of insulation. It was all encased in a plastic bag looking deal. I remember thinking that it would in fact suck if any water got into that insulation but the plastic shell seemed to do a pretty decent job of keeping it watertight. The window slid up and down nicely too. I bet if you managed to tack that insulation up away from the workings of the window that it would work. Just a thought.
