Here's a headscratcher or two...

Will a a '58 3 speed tranny w/electric overdrive work in my '66 burb? Supposedly, the tranny lived in a '58 Vette with a 283...

I'm looking for cheap and creative ways around my 411 posi rear. Great rear end, but not meeting my daily driver needs. Running a 292, and needing some top end!

Anyone local wanna swap? Prefence given to 353, or 308s!

I have heard of people putting that OD behind a Saginaw 4 speed too.

Not very strong though.

Re: Here's a headscratcher or two...

I run a muncie 4 speed with a 355 posi. At 65-70 i am at 3000+ rpm. I run a SBC 350.Killer for around town but on I5 its a different story. But I know a few guys that have put T5's out of late model IROC's and 5 speed S-10's. We just nabbed a few from Tigard U-Pull-It a few weeks back. They were I think $75 a tranny. That would give you great top end for freeway cruising. I am thinking of doing the same.

Might wanna specify which muncie. Is it m20 or m21 or m22. The latter 2 are a close ratio and therefore suck down low w/ 3.55's. I'm guessing you have an m20 cuz if the gearing but just figured might help the OP. Also, with 3.73's at 85mph I was at 3800rpm I believe with my muncie m21. Also, all of the muncie's are a 1:1 4th gears so I know what your gettin at with your post about the cruising speeds so wouldn't matter there which muncie.

Re: Here's a headscratcher or two...

Leaving to pull a 308 '71 rear end as we speak!

Tranny-wise, I'll stick to the stock sm420 for now. With the 308 rear, my granny will be nice. Got a buddy with an honest-to-goodness rockcrusher he might part with...

I've heard the T-5s aren't too strong?

Jeez! How's that for a disjointed post? I'm hyped to finally find a 5-lug with the gears I wanted. $150. Not bad.

Re: Here's a headscratcher or two...

Mine is a M21.. I have been happy with it so far. bulletproof and a kick in the a$$ to drive around town. Just not much fun on the free way.. But I am not going to complain to much. As far at the T5, I have a buddy that has ran them in some pretty kick butt el Camino's that run fast on the drag strip. He has nothing but good luck with them We are going to build a 400+ 400sbc and mate it with a T5 in a new and up coming 36 chev coupe rat rod. I will keep you posted.
