1 ton axle swap questions
I pulled the axles from a 1986 Chevy 1 ton single rear wheel truck, looking to put them in my 1970 blazer.
Looking to put disc brakes on the rear. The front is a Dana 60 with a 32" spring perch to spring perch. The rear 14bolt has a 40" spring perch to perch. Anybody done this? Is it pretty straightforward? Looking for tips before I get started. Thanks, Dan |

Re: 1 ton axle swap questions
The front should bolt right in .
The rear you should have to move the spring perches and shock mounts on the axle housing for it to work. When you measure youre spring perch are you going from center to center?

Re: 1 ton axle swap questions
Thanks, yeah center to center. But the tape measure bows around the pumpkin a little, so it's not perfect measurement.

I'm a little confused because the spring perches off of the '86 should be wider. We'll in any case you will have to mount new shock mounts. Make sure when you mount youre new shock mounts that you measure from the center out and not from the center of the pumkin but the center between the backing plates. Measure between the backing plates and than scribe a center mark in youre rear end than measure out from there.

Re: 1 ton axle swap questions
The 1 ton 14 bolts had the narower spring perches like our trucks. the 3/4 ton full float 14 bolt trucks, use the same axle but have the wider spring mounts.

Re: 1 ton axle swap questions
I just completed the swap from an '85.
Shock mounts have to move, DIY sells the mount tabs on the cheap. For the disc brake you can shoot to Pirate4x4 for a couple of different options for backing plates, I picked a straight one for $47 delivered with grade 8 hardware. Calipers and pads from a 75 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy truck are next, cheap and beefy! I already had the booster, master cyl, and proportioning valve so I can't help you there but it looks like your doner should cover you.
