thermostat question
I had some overheating issues. I removed the thermostat out of my 53 GMC(2.8 V6) It looks like it's the stock thermostat from 88 and it's stuck in the closed position. My question is, If the truck is only driven in the summertime, do I really need a new thermostat or could I just run the truck without one? I'm not try'n to be cheap. I know there not expensive. I just thought I'd see if anyone is running without one. What should I do, replace or not use one? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

i ran alot of old vehicles with one for alittle bit but i would put one in, maybe a 180 or 165 degree

Put it in, it is there to regulate temperature, it allows the engine to warm up in winter and let water flow through radiator and engine to cool efficently in summer.

depending on your set up if you run the average modern car/ truck with out a thermostat your engine won't reach the recommended temp. and may run rich lowering your milage. also since the parts are designed to expand with heat your engine will wear slightly more. you made the right choice
