Suburban paint question?

I was checking out all those engine bay pic's and noticed something on ssman's Sub I have seen before but was not sure about. Does anyone know, is the panel between the tail lights originally painted white? I attached a pic, hope he doesn't mind. Killer truck by the way ssman.

Not that my truck is stock but I like that orginal look and it would be an easy fix.

While on the subject of paint. Under hood from the factory, the firewall is body color and everything else was a satin black correct?

Dave

Re: Suburban paint question?

Dave,
When I I bought my truck 2 years ago it still had the original paint. I wondered the same thing and searched the internet and I have seen old photos of burbs with the same stripe. I'm 99% sure that they came that way. Maybe as a trim option or something?
I just wanted to put it back the way it came (as far as the paint goes,,,) . All of the paint under the hood is original. I thought the crayon marks on the firewall were cool so i left it alone. Just a mild cleaning. Oh !! the white stripe is only on the doors. It dosent extend around the tail lights... I have some original paint pics I'll try to post tonight. I have to get to work. See Ya ! Steve

Re: Suburban paint question?

Thanks for all the help fella's. The knowledge on this board never fails!

I had a feeling it was a factory thing. I'm going to make this change, shouldn't be too tough. I also want to change my firewall color to match the body color, it's currently black. That will be a bigger job. I'm guessing the easiest way would be to remove the whole doghouse. Not hard to do so I'm told.

Cheif/Steve, thanks for the compliment.

BTW Steve, your engine setup is off the chart!! My little 283 is not worthy
