Smog troubles!!!

I have a new crate ZZ4 motor in my blazer with no smog stuff at all. Here in Lake Havasu City AZ we don't have emission testing. I have been trying to trade or sell my blazer and nobody will touch it without it passing smog tests!! Help, how do I get around this or modify for the smallest $$$. Thanks any help or advise is appreciated.....hava79

Re: Smog troubles!!!

Keep looking for the right seller. If there's no emissions in AZ and you're selling just locally , then they are just being stupid. If you're selling it other than locally, you will have this problem.

Really to pass emissions, if they have visual inspections, you have to reinstall EVERYthing that's missing. Should be a cat, charcoal canister, egr valve heat valve, maybe an A.I.R. pump. Major PITA and not cheap.

Re: Smog troubles!!!

I was afraid of that answer, maybe somebody from the vegas or southern cali let me know the things that are required. I was also told that vehicles older that 25 years have more forgiveness??

Re: Smog troubles!!!

in california it 1976 or older, not a rolling 25 years like some states. I agree that if you don`t have emission testing then it shouldn`t matter. If you sell it to a state like california you would need all smog equipment that came on the truck. The ZZ4`s have a EGR mount on the intake but I`m not sure if it would pass the visual even with the smog stuff. That would be interesting to find out.

On a side note, is all of AZ like that where you don`t need emission testing? I have a possible job offer in the Yucca area and it would be nice to yank all my smog stuff off.

Re: Smog troubles!!!

I believe the only area that requires smog is the phoenix metro area. Everywhere else is relatively rural. Lake Havasu City has a population of about 60,000. I guess I will just keep warming the globe eight cylinders at a time!!!

Damn that sucks. Ya I think you would have to get everything you needed and put it back on there. Defiantly a PITA and not cheap. Glad we don't have inspections up here either.

Sounds to me like the potential buyer is just a tire kicker or a jerk.

Re: Smog troubles!!!

Actually the potential buyer wants to trade me a 31 ford sedan that is pretty sweet, but I am trying to free up some cash to buy a bigger boat......Just not using the blazer like I thought I would and ran out of steam before I tore it down for paint

Re: Smog troubles!!!

How much is an emissions test?

How did the rear bumper fit on the Blazer?

Man, I would hate to see the Blazer go.

Re: Smog troubles!!!

G, I dont know how much a test is , we dont have to have them here. The bumper worked out great, I pulled it up and in then had a custom hitch made for it...I think in my profile you can see more pics, I have some rear shots....thanks again, I think I just hit this project too hard too fast. If it doesnt go I will just have to wait longer on the boat plan!!

Re: Smog troubles!!!

Tucson has testing and its every year like $12.00. You get to wait in line for your turn at the station idling away for like an hour while everyone else is waiting too in 110° temps. Then you get to run it on the dyno and watch your temp gauge spike since your not moving. They test the gas caps too.
