Upgrading to HEI and have a question?

I am in the process of upgrading to an HEI distributer in my 70 chevy. I have followed the posting on how to do it in the electrical section step by step. I have installed the distributer and disconnected and removed the coil and the old yellow wire. I have installed a new wire from the fuse panel to the hei. my question is concerning the purple wire that runs from the ignition switch to the soleinod..... it is hot only when you are cranking the engine. Does this need to be connected to the distributer as well? If so,does it stay connected to the solenoid? please explain....
Any help on finishing ths up is greatly appreciated!

Re: Upgrading to HEI and have a question?

the pruple wire is only hot in the crank position, it has nothing to do with the ignition system. if you have it plugged into the IGN unfused spot on the fuse box, then no other wires are needed.
