Bed floors
Just curious.....what does everyone like better for their bed floors? Wood or metal? Was one or the other for 'base models' and was one an upgrade? Also, how does everyone get a 37 year old metal floor straightened out from all the dents so one can paint it?

Re: Bed floors
I think wood looks cool but my truck has a metal floor. I straightened most of the dents by taking the bed apart and using regular body tools. I also made a 2x4 to fit the grooves for backing. It's not perfect but much better. Just remember you cant access both sides where the cross braces are. You would have to remove them or pull them from the top. Or just buy a new floor which is what I'm going to do on round 2 someday.
As far as the base/option thing I really don't know.

Or you could drive about one hour and pick up a brand new one at the store for $800.00

Re: Bed floors
Tim, I'll probably be seeing you before to long. I've heard good things about you from members on here and I'm getting close to needing some body panels. Probably not the bed floor for a while....but some bed sides. You going to be at charlotte auto fair? Just checked out your site. I see you are going there and also the Gray Tn show. I'll try to stop in at the Tenn. show.

Re: Bed floors
I like a metal bed for a work truck, and a wood bed for a weekend driver or show truck.

Re: Bed floors
And I like a wood bed because it's kind to my cargo...plus, worse case scenario, I can screw down stops where needed.
Obviously, I use my truck as a truck. And, yes, the origional bed wood is still intact... |

Re: Bed floors
on all 3 lengths of stepsides, wood was all you could get till 1988... in a longhorn, wood was all that was offered.
For normal SWB and LWB fleetside beds, steel was standard, and wood was an added cost option. I like steel on a work truck, or a beater... but it's hard to beat wood and stainless steel trim for a pretty truck. |
