Single Wall Top vs Double?
This might sound like a dumb question, but follow with me....
I have the top on my Jimmy, it is what I believe to be a single wall top? -it has interior lights -mounting points are visable from inside the truck -take about three guys to lift and move Now I have another top which I think is a double wall.... -the mounts for the bed sides are inside the top -no interior lights now here is where I am confused.....the second top is lighter then the one I thought was a single wall??? I could easily pick it up with me and one other person..... Do I have the tops mixed up or what? If not I thought the single walls were more desirable because they were lighter? Re: Single Wall Top vs Double?
you are correct. Single walls bolt down thought the top and screw into the bedrails. Doublewalls screw from the bottom through the bedrail into the top. Single walls are harder to find because there were few made and people like them because of the light.

Re: Single Wall Top vs Double?
mine is single wall bolts down through the top mine is pretty heavy it takes me and 3 others to lift off and not do any damage i dont know the differance in weight between the two but i like the fact that i do not have to take my side panels off to remove the top and has two lights . later

I am glad that I had the tops right. I was really confused because I have heard from a lot of people that the single wall is more desired because it is lighter and that was definitely not the case. I would say that the double wall was a good 75 pounds lighter then the single? Thanks for your response! |

Re: Single Wall Top vs Double?
The only advantages to the single wall:
Overhead lights Can remove top without removing the side panels on CST equipped trucks. With that said, I still prefer the double wall.

Re: Single Wall Top vs Double?
Have yet to see any 'real' weight numbers between the two for a comparison to prove either-way which one is heavier.
I've pulled off double walled tops that felt light-ish and others that were miserable to lift off. Wonder if the weights of the double walled tops varied any over the production years...? |

Re: Single Wall Top vs Double?
I prefer the single wall for the inside roof design. It just looks better without the line down the middle, and the single walls also seem to have less of a problem with the roof sagging in the middle. The lights are a bonus.
