1970 K10 swap to slave cylinder for the clutch

I know there is some one out there that has done this already. I want to get rid of the stock linkage and go slave cylinder for the clutch. I need some assistance here. I could muck around and find something that works but, I would rather do it right the first time. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1970 K10 swap to slave cylinder for the clutch

I converted my 72 with SM465 to Hydro clutch.
I used an 86 GM master w/ 80s Toyota LandCruzer Slave.
I bought a slave mount bracket from Advance Adapter, they make the bracket for the LandCruzer guys that put Chevy drivetrains into their LandCruzers.
The Slave:

Master: I mounted it upside down, I used an angel finder to mount the master level with the throw of the push rod, you need to make sure that rod gets pushed in nice and strait and release all the way too. I mounted a 1/2 spacer inbetween the master & firewall to bring the master out for full release of the push rod.

You can see the bolt sitting in the hole were I mounted the push rod to the clutch peddel, the hole in the firewall is a bit messy as I had to reaise my mounting point from my original hole drilling...
Been running in there for a few years now and works great!
Oh, bleeding the system was a huge PIA, I had to bleed in sections to get all the air out.
Good Luck!
Burt

What line did you use to connect the master cylinder to slave?

I use a AN3 hose, EARL brand I think...Advance Adapter sold me the hose too when I bought the bracket. At the master cyl & slave I had to use a NPT to AN thread adapter for the braded hose to work.

Why did you mount the M/C upside down?

Re: 1970 K10 swap to slave cylinder for the clutch

because of the angle/firewall. By mounting it upsidedown alowed the pushrod to travel in a straight in/out motion. I have seen some make a degree shim to alow right-side-up installs but the master works fine upsidedown so...

Re: 1970 K10 swap to slave cylinder for the clutch

No, about 3yrs ago I droped that RAT in there ~ lots of fun to drive

When I put the 454 in is also when I converted to Hydro clutch, way more easier than trying to get the manual linkage to work
Bleeding all the air out took some time, had to bleed in sections, but once I got all the air out the setup has been working great eversence!

did you build custom mounts or use OEM 396/402 mounts?
