Help!?!? 2wheel to 4wheel drive conv.

Ok, here's my problem I bought this truck when the previous owner was mid-way through the project, all the 4x4 stuff is there except the 4x4 linkage and front driveshaft were not installed. I'm not worried about the driveshaft, I am however leery of cutting the floor board to install the 4x4 linkage since I am new to build"ing" so to speak. So if anyone out there has done this before please send me information and pictures of how to do this properly.

1st:
Is the 4wd stuff from the same years (67-72,I assume) as your truck?So your cab is from a 2wd with the non-removable low center hump?If not,I`m not sure how it all fits under there.If it has the removebale hump it`s easy as locating the proper hump cover.If the transfer case isn`t one used in this series the shifter would be in a diferent place.
Let us know more and we can suggest the best route to take.

Ok,I see the 4spd does fit.I don`t think I ever knew it would fit.The factory uses the high hump on all 4spds,even 2wd.
So...it`s all in except the shifter,right?I realixed I don`t have a 4spd 4wd here anymore to measure the holes.I do have a 4spd/NP 205 combination I can measure to see where the shifters are in relationship to each other.But,you can do that with what you have.
Do you know if you have a NP205 transfer case?It will say so on an ID tag on the back of the case.They are iron and have a pto access plate just like on the transmission.

Does anyone have a 4spd 4wd hump they can measure the hole locations on?

I can measure the location for my NP205 shifter in my 70 K5 this evening. It has a SM465 4 speed.

Will you be filling in your 4 speed shifter hole some? It is way oversized presently.

Okay, I measured with my 4 speed in 2nd gear and the NP205 in 2Hi. From the 4 speed's shifter go 8 1/2" back and 2 1/2" over to the passenger side. Open that hole up enough so you can shift the t/c case shifter with a little extra clearance so you have no rubbing when offroading and the body is a little twisted.

I know that would be due to the genius who had it before me, I don't know how I'm going to go about fixing the hole yet... I'd really like the replace the floor entirely he just patched it all over horribly and there's some rusted out spots on my cab support beams but money is getting tight/ the transfer case sits back a ways here's some pics of the underside

I don't know if the 208 shifter is in the same location as the 205 which is what I measured - I'd get the shifter installed without the cover and do some measuring, then cut your hole to make sure you get it where it should be.

Good news and bad...
The 208 isn't the strongest case in the world, but it will last a good while, and the 2.6-1 reduction will help with your taller gears.

The SM465 bolted to it pretty much has to be a 32 spline late model unit, arguably the toughest manual trans to come on a 4x4(maybe less beef than the NV5600 $$$$6speed?). 32 spline NP205's, and most of the shiny aftermarket stuff require this trans (identify by round bolt pattern trans-transfer case adapter).

This would usually have come with a hydraulic clutch, but looks like maybe they made something else?

There should be a brace rod from the passenger side of the transfer case to the upper right bellhousing bolt, it helps prevent housing breakage.

Crossmember mods might be needed, I have a vague memory of the front shaft from a 208 being too low, having interference issues...the front output should use a flange type double U-joint from a 93- suburban, or 89 down truck.

And I don't think this does 'fit' the low hump, it looks like despite the huge hole, they had to bend the edges up to clear.

Since you have a transfer case that didn`t come in these trucks the hole for the shifter will be located in a different place.The NP208 is what came in the CUCV 1t & Blazer and serves it`s purpose.I`ve been tempted to suggest locating a floor section with high/removable hump and using that.You may help your floor some with that,you won`t have to deal with the previous owner`s hole,and you will have a removable cover that will make it so much easier to get your holes right as well as have proper access for any future servicing.The best hump would be a 4spd 2wd.They are most common and you`d have the one hole you need and you can put the t-case shifter in it`s custom location.I think you`ll thank yourself and will end up with a floor you can use an out-of-the-box floor mat or carpet.
Your floor section can come from any 4spd equipped truck/Blazer/Suburban,any 4wd,and any big block.Usually grease,oil,and location preserve this area from bad rust.

Thanks for all the information guys! I kinda figured that after I read about the high hump I was gonna need one looks like a worth while investment... starting to take the rust/project a little more seriously, I think I'm going to go ahead with painting and lining the bed to remind myself of the goal of this truck, which is kinda changing as I continue with it. I think I want it too look a little nicer not quite show but at least slightly better than daily driver Anyways keep the comments and ideas coming loving the input, Thanks!

Rhino line it all and cut as needed. All the extra stuff is just drain holes for the mudd and water that will fill the cab.

An NP208 transfercase shifter mounts to the body and has a rod that goes to the tcase to shift it. Your best bet would be to find a shifter from a late 80s to early 90s truck or blazer, mount it to your floor boardand then ajust the length of the control rod as needed.
