Exhaust question for you guys with 2 piece driveshafts
hey guys, got a quick question for ya...im planning on running duel exhaust but i still have the original xmember that the driveshaft goes though...you mustve run your pipes below that xmember right? do they hang down a lot? and also did you put your mufflers before that or after? btw im running a regular driveshaft though the hole in the xmember--->thanks in advance and any pics would be awesome

Mine run from the headers, between the frame and rockers, and exit in front of the rear tires....with no balance tube. I want a balance tube. Must have a balance tube.

Mine run under that x-member with the mufflers after. No clearance issues there at all. I drag the full length header collectors long before that part of the exhaust even gets close. I can get pics tomorrow if you want.

I found a pic that kinda shows the clearance I have. This is with a 2/4 drop.

Please excuse me, but that's not a very good exhaust job. I've got a 2 1/2" spindle drop on the front and even with full 3" exhaust and good ol' Hedman headers hanging down there, I still ahve a good 5-6" of clearance.

Mine are 2 1/2 back from hedman elite hedders. We thought hard about this and decided to run them back under the cab outside the frame. Used Flow 40s with rear offset so pipe runs nearly straight back below bumper. Also does not create problem with custom rear fuel tank, filler and vent. It would have been even easier to just drop the exhaust in front of rear tire... but even with fully double insulated cab it was too lumpy for me. We also have to have emisson checks every two years in Wisconsin and I was told the next check required "tailpipes."

Maybe this will give you a little better view.
I took this while I was redoing the rear suspension.

This exhaust (our Performance EX") is installed in a 68 swb stepside that I had. Sorry but I don't have any clearence pictures but it wasn't an issue. The truck had a 3" X 5" drop and the exhaust exited out behind the rear wheels. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

That is a pretty bad exhaust job . The last exhaust job I had done on my truck came out like that. I brought it in on a weekend to get done and when I picked it up saturday afternoon I looked at it and was speechless. It was hanging down like that and was 4 inches below the trailing arm crossmember. The pipes were different lengths coming out the back and the tailpipes were hitting the bumper. I just looked at the guy and said " Do you consider this a quality job worth $300 ? " . Monday morning it was in there again being re-done ( free of charge ) by the manager of the exhaust shop and now its the best looking exhaust job I have ever seen on one of these.
