What years for a 5lug conversion??
I have a new toy, '67 Chevy swb. I need to convert to 5 lug. What years can be used? I know that the rearend has to be a 71-72, but what about the front disc brakes? Is it the same years or can you dip into the 80's? I was just wondering, I'm not so clear on this.

You can use the '71-72 models or jump up to the '73-87 models which will offer cheaper replacement parts.
I'll let some other members chime in as I'm not completely knowledgeable on the subject.

Re: What years for a 5lug conversion??
Thanks for the help, I was hoping to here that. I was thinking up to like 79 but that was it. I have a donor truck then, 83 chevy. I may try and use the rearend also, depending on the width. I can't seem to get my hands on a 71-72 rear. I can cut the perches off and reweld them.

Re: What years for a 5lug conversion??
You can allso use conversion 5-lug axles in your 6-lug rearend with 71-72 brake drums. (approx. $300 for the axles) Look at ECE or Summit Racing or Moser Engineering for these axles.

Another easy and cheap way to go is just re drill the axles you already have. Take the rear-end to a good rear-end shop have them check everything, replace the fluid and seals, and re-drill the bolt holes, press in new studs and BAM!!! for the same price you are good to go with a re-end you know is good!!! After I posted that I remembered that a shop I deal with here in my town can redrill axles to any pattern for $50 a side. I pull the axles, and it will cost me a $100. Only thing I may do is swap the rearends in both '67's because this one will be the Tow Pig and the other a driver, and it has 4.11's, this one I bet is 3.08. |
