dash speakers

Hello,
I'm going to be replacing the original speaker in my dash and was wondering if anyone could recommend the dual dash speaker that that I've seen some venders offering? Does it sound good? Is it difficult to remove the old speaker and replace it with the new dual speaker?
Thank you!
Joe

Re: dash speakers

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with that speaker or any like it, but I'm probably going to stick a 6"x9" Clarion in there so that I have some sound from up front to match my two Clarion 10's and four 6.5's. But I might just route a air duct to it to use for more heat. But it would probably be quite easier to use a really good aftermarket speaker and build a bracket to hold it under there.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

Re: dash speakers

There are a number of aftermarket solutions to your need, however, I did this with an original dash-mounted speaker chassis. The solutions are only limited to the speaker choices you want to retro-fit into a factory dash-mounting chassis. I used a few dash-mounted GM speakers from an '88 Chevy truck I had in my inventory. With the factory AM radio head unit, with only a single channel, I wired both in series. Not HIFI, but sufficient for this old-timer.

Re: dash speakers

I bought one of the dash speakers that you are talking about. It sounds pretty good but I have heard better. The reason I bought the aftermarket setup was b/c there was no speaker or mount in the truck I had at the time and it seemed to be the easiest alternative at the time. If I had it to do over again, I think I would steal Tony's idea and buy a pair of high quality speakers that would fit in the stock speaker grill. Good job Tony!

Re: dash speakers

Thank you. I also just bought an original am radio. The PO (I think he was on meth) cut the radio slot out to fit a junkie am radio in it from the 70s. I'm hoping it's not too cut up or I'll have to get a replacement piece for it.
Thanks again,
Joe

Re: dash speakers

I bought one of the dual speaker setups as well.....about 17 years ago. I'm not a big critic on spaekers, so it has been just fine for me. The next time I need something like it, I will just make it myself. The ones you buy are really quite simple to duplicate.
