4wd conversion questions / suggestions HELP!

i have a 67 LWB GMC 2wd that i want to convert to a 4wd. I have a 76 chevy 1/2 ton donor truck with a dana 44, 12 bolt, sm465, and np205. I have the whole rollong chassis of the 4wd. I've considered doing a full frame swap but i know that will be a huge pain b/c of building new cab and bed mounts. But, i have no idea if the 76 steerng box will bolt to my 67 frame, will the 76 front spring hanger work (i know anything will work with a welder and enough patience), do the axle pad line up the same width as on 67-72 trucks or do i need to weld up new mounts, etc...Will i have to change the negine crossmember? Basically, i'm a pretty good fabricator but i've never done much 4wd work...i.e. setting the caster, pinion angle, etc. Anybody got any advice/experience with this swap?

Re: 4wd conversion questions / suggestions HELP!

Look at my post on the 4 wheel drive forums. I did the same thing just last week. The 73 steering box I used bolted right in on my 70 gmc. The FGB52 kit is well worth the money and much more stout than stock. You will have to buy a engine crossmember or make one like I did.
Cheers

Re: 4wd conversion questions / suggestions HELP!

since you have a 67 the frame doesn't have the bump in for a power steering box. you can use a torch and modify the area to make it fit by heating it up and using a BFH to pound it in.

getting the leafs in there for the front is the main thing. if you use stock springs you're gonna need to flatten out the bump out for the e-brake or cut it out completely and weld in some plate steel to flatten it out. if you use the FGB52 kit from diy4x and use 52'' springs then you just need to make a hole in the frame for the rear mounts since it'll be behind the e-brake cable bumps. as mentioned above you'll need the engine crossmember for a 4wd. if you already have a donor vehicle just use it for reference on how things are set up and go from there.
