Crew Cab Owners- I need your assistance.
Trying to work out a driveshaft for my crew cab. I have a few shafts on hand, but nothing is close...
First of all can someone confirm that the layout goes like this (starting from the transmission)... 1- Slip yoke 2- U-joint 3- Intermediate shaft (with carrier bearing at the end) 4- Slip yoke 5- U-joint 6- Rear shaft 7- U-joint (at rear diff) Also, can you give me the following measurements so I can take them to the yard with me (Automatic tranny btw)- 1- rear shaft length from center of U-joint at the rear to the end of the slip. 2- intermediate shaft length from end of shaft to center of U-joint (unless you have one out of the truck, then you can go to end of tranny yoke). Also, for the intermediate shaft, be sure to mention what tranny you are running. I have a TH350, a TH400 and a 700r4 available to me, so it'll probably depend on what driveshaft setup I find.

Layout sounds good but with my 1988 3+3 the th400 is not a slip yoke it is a bolt on yoke. let me go out and take some measurements.

center of u joint at trans to center of bearing 38.5 inches
center of joint at slip yoke to center of joint at pinon is 56 inches the slip yoke is 7.25 inches long from center of joint so rear shaft would be 63.25 inches long form end of yoke to center of joint at pinon and thats with a th400 as good as i can get with out pulling the rear shaft and thats not going to happen at 10*F outside

Anyone with the 700r4 that can measure their intermediate shaft? From what I've read, the rear shaft is the same. Would the 700r4 be a bolt on yoke in this application also?

why an intermediate shaft?? Why not just a one piece shaft from trans./xcase to rearend? That's how mine is and how the newer body style trucks are that are crew cab short beds.

Mine's a crew cab long bed 2wd. That would be one long driveshaft if it was one piece. Just trying to get the factory setup ironed out.
Out of all the yards near me, I only found one with the driveshaft intact, so I bought it. It came out of a manual truck though. According to Hollander, the rear shaft for MT and AT are the same, so now I have it. However, the intermediate shaft is longer, so I'll either have to keep looking or shorten the one I bought. Also, according to Hollander, the Suburban that I'm picking up today to use as a parts buggy has a 2-piece driveshaft (which won't work), but does have a transmission with the bolt-on yoke. So I'm one step closer.
