GM plug wires! Put them on the truck or use them to hang myself?

Ok i just put a motor from a 85 GMC in my 71 GMC. now I know there might be a little differance in wires for a points style ignition and an HEI, but not much. you would think after all these years GM could come up with plug wires that actualy fit. Instead you get wires that are to long, to short, and then wires that dont even belong in the kit. I have a rats nest of plug wires on this engine and dont like it one bit.

Does anyone out there know if you can buy a set of plug wires that fit.

are you buying wires that are specific to the 71 or to the 85? or neither?

I have always had better luck with buying "cut to fit" sets.

if you have ram horn manifolds, and HEI, and want to route the wires under the manifolds (like stock) then you need the wire set ffor a 75 vette with a small block.

I just got a set of hei wires for a '78 truck with hei (that's the only way O'reilly's can find a part, making stuff up) and they don't fit right at all. All the msd stuff i've had works good. Plus they have cut to your own sizes kits.

I always use taylor wires and make them my self, 100% better than stock would ever be.

I used these. The best plug wires I have ever had. They may seem a little pricey, but well worth the money.

Most reputable wire companies will make a set to fit your application. For the best fit, you should spend some money on spark plug wire guides. I have even seen, and used zip ties, just keep them away from the exhaust manifolds and from areas where rubbing will cause a hole or cut in the wires. This isn't rocket science, just common sense. Just stay away from some of the Vette plug wires, as some of the Vettes ran them thru the engine mounts. That was to keep them away from the exhaust, but what a PIA to install

Just go and buy a set of whatever brand you want cut to fit wires and make them fit. I usually buy MSD because of their low resistence.
