72 chevy crawler

i have a truck cab and motor and no money

How much money do you think i will need if i try to build a rockcrawler?
What parts will I need and can i get most of the parts from the junkyard?

this would not be built for events just to have fun on the weekends and be better than my friends trucks

Re: 72 chevy crawler

i dont know what parts ull need but all the rockcrawlers im used to seeing at one of the shops i frequent have more the alot of custom fab time, and how the crawlers are built really depends on budget, skills, and style
deffinately invest in good axles, and for rock crawling your going to want the minimum amount of hangup spots as you can achive
i would spend some time with the rock crawlers in your area and make some connections, they will know what u need to get started and will most deffinately have some pointers for ya
good luck with the project
deffinately make a build thread once you get started cause someday i would love to build myslef a crawler

Re: 72 chevy crawler

Buy a military or farm truck, K30. I forget what the military number is for the K30 but I would get me a 1ton4x4Chevy and a grinder/sawzall/welder/BFH etc... and a good internet connection to find a similar build that you wish yours to look like then get to work. Oh you may want to tell yer buddys to come over and help..don't forget the beer

Re: 72 chevy crawler

either find a cucv or just find a K30 and swap the parts over.

they will mostly have SM465's and TH400s, NP205s, and D60 front axles, 14 bolt or D70HD rear axles. 87 and newer would have TBI fuel injection.

Re: 72 chevy crawler

You wouldn't want the 6.2 anyway trust me the military 6.2 suck as for the axles transmission and transfer they are worth it. I would get that some good 38" tires and some link arms from tractor supply and build a solid 3 link system front and rear and a steering ram from tsc also trust me you will need help turning those tires on a trail.

Re: 72 chevy crawler

I use to fix a copy machine at Seaside High

If you are ever in Morgan Hill check out Pacific Fabrication www.pacificfab.net
They have a CNC cutting table and can make anything.
If you look at the web site you can see some of the projects. The White/Blue K5/Truggy is the owners.

Anyway good luck with your build.
Burt
