Motor ID help
I just picked up a 402 from the junkyard the other day. Trying to find out what it is, and what it is out of. I know it's a 402, date on the block is 6 8 72. Heads and intake are within a couple months IIRC. Back of the block says 3999290, up front by the alternator is stamped T0517CTB. Also the manifold has a number of 3964243, but think they are tall deck truck manifolds. This motor was pulled from a dumptruck, or at least from what we can tell, not much left of it. Pretty sure it's not the original motor, talked with a bunch of BBC guys, and is pretty rare to have a regular big block instead of the tall decks.
I also have a 454, was pulled from a truck, but the manifolds look like a car. Didn't get the back numbers, but up front there were 2 sets of numbers. By the alternator is C6F119708, and by the intake/waterpump bypass hose was another set of numbers, T1016TSK. I never saw them there before. I'm trying to figure out what the motors came out of, mostly for the 402, I plan on selling it, might be worth it someone restoring a truck or SS Chevelle and wants a close to numbers matching setup. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Motor ID help
I'm a search nut so I usually end up doing some searches. In fact when I post an answer to someone's question here, half the time it came from a quick search.
http://www.nastyz28.com/bbcmenu.php That block shows to be exactly it was sold to you as 3999290 1972 402 240, 2 bolt |

Re: Motor ID help
Did some quick searching, but the CTB says it's from a 72 Chevell or Camaro with a TH400. Trying to find out exactly what it came out of, if it came out of a 72 SS, it would be worth more than if out of a Impala or something.

Re: Motor ID help
Guess the motor is from a car, wether it's a Chevelle, Camaro or full size there is no way to tell. But the CBT would be the correct numbers for a Chevelle or Camaro.....

Re: Motor ID help
Please forgive me for hijacking this thread, however I needed to ID a BB I have. So I used the links and it looks like a I have 1970 402 block and 1971 402 heads. Which check out with the stories.
The question is where do I find out about what the engines were available in? The code on mine is T0901CLB, followed by some smaller numbers 11S1... (hard to make out).

Re: Motor ID help
The motor is a 71, not a 70. The T means it was made in Tonowanda, 0901 is the date, and the CLB is a 402, 4 barrel, 300 horse LS-3 with a TH400

Re: Motor ID help
So what was the engine available in? From the research i did last night it looked like a Monte Carlo or Chevelle engine?

Re: Motor ID help
From what I was told by a guy here that restores 70 chevelles that sell at Barret Jackson, there is no way to tell exactly what the motor came out of. But could be a 'velle, monte, full size, camaro...
