need some info, want to turf my 350 for a 292
i have a 1975 4x4. i have a 292 that i have been saving for ten years. it came from a 1976 van. was wondering if i need to find new brackets coming off the block. i know the motor mounts are the same, but what about the brackets. i also know that they are different for the eights, not sure about the sixes. they are hard to find after last years record scrap prices. thanx

Re: need some info, want to turf my 350 for a 292
i am thinking that you are right but the small block 8's are different. the two wheel drives are in a different place. a little farther down the frame, because of the stoppers of the axels. so the brackets on the block are shorter making the span accross 3/4 inch wider. because of the length of the brakets of the block 3/8 inch move and the extra room would not be noticed. just that i don't have a shop anymore i want to be prepared so i don't tie up someone elses. and if there is a difference. does anyone have some?

You will need the 292 brackets, but you might also need the correct frame stands too...the 292's have offset engine mounts, unlike V8's and the 250 six which are straight across. The actual mounts are the same though. 292's are odd like this.

I doubt they will work...almost positive they won't.

Re: need some info, want to turf my 350 for a 292
I have put a 292 out of a 63 c30 into a 85 K20 that originally had a 350. I used mid 70's 250 engine mounts from a nova I had to slot a couple holes to get them to bolt to the 292 block and used the original 350 frame mounts I just made a plate to locate the frame mount forward to the 292 location. The drivers side frame mount stayed in its stock location.

thanx i so much forgot that, haven't looked at it for awhile. it's behind stuff. they were the type that mount to the top of the frame. so really it may be the one that doesn/t need moving that may be the problem. maybe the drill will solve all

now you scaring me, maybe i should put a 6.2? got a few of those. just that they are a fair bit heavier. in a 30 it should be no problem. the 292 i have has less than 5000 miles since total rebuild, it sure purrs like a kitten
