pitch
so, my old house had a bunch of really old pine trees that LOVED to share there pitch with everything underneath them. so last weekend I was washing my car and realized how much pitch and the like my car had taken over the time. and I used some of my bug and tar remover and it seemed to help but dident get the stubborn stuff off. so I tried the clay bar, which had helped before. but this time to no avail. so, what is the best way to get this stuff off?

Re: pitch
Have you gone to a auto body supply outlet and looked at their paint prep materials? Most paint lines have a paint prep that is designed to removed tar and items like "Pitch", while NOT damaging the paint. I have a couple different brands in my shop that I have used over the years. I do not have a lot of sap from trees in my area, but everything that I have taken on with the cleaners has successfully been removed. You do have to reapply a protectant for your paint when this is used. (wax, paint sealant, etc....)
The real enemy is not the tree goo, but the sun that bakes it onto the finish. I also carry a bottle of detail spray in all of my vehicles, just in case I get hit by a really nasty bird, sappy tree, or just a big stinking bug. The stuff I use works really well to take the stuff off before it is baked into the paint. I have gotten some small tree drippings at many shows and the detail spray removes it all, so far. |

Re: pitch
Soak a rag in white vinegar, lay it on the sap spots for awhile then wipe clean..... she will need fresh wax afterward.
