need some help want to make my truck a hybrid, gas electric, I am thinking of a 5hp 2500 watt generator with a couple electric motors to power it. let me know if you have any ideas

I think I can get 200 mpgs with this set up it will not make much of any noise either, I dont like loud trucks, and it will be good for the enviroment. I am hoping to start a new fad

anouther thought here, should I go all batteries, it is a truck I could load it up with batteries, but I dont know about the weight thing, anyone know where I can get lots of car batteries, all I know is the junk yard, I dont have much money now days

Golf carts probably not, think hysters, etc with big electric motors and controllers. Last summer my brother in law and I sat around talking about it, he works repairing electric machinery like fork lifts, etc. and an old Miata sitting in his yard. Problem with that was where to put the batteries. Locally a guy used a 75hp motor and a bunch of batterys to make a VW electric that plugs into a 220 v socket. He claims he has about 7K into the conversion. It uses the vw transaxle with motor where the engine was, batteries are in the back seat area.

I ran across this a while back. The have some sort of electric car association up in your area. Might be worth checking out and they might be able to give you pointers. This is a video that I found on youtube.

I was all about the HP/torque and noise. I thought electric car were slow, heavy and complicated. But that video sure opened my eyes.

I have thought about the same thing, was at the Growth Conference a few days ago and spent some time with the guys from Tesla, Fiskar and Aptera and drove cars from both Tesla and Aptera. The Tesla will pin your ears back and make your hair stand up. Sounds like a golf cart up to about 35, after that it sounds like a turbo charger and whistles a little bit. Hard to believe you are going that fast given the lack of noise.
Problem in talking with the engineers is the weight and the drag coefficient. Both significantly impact the ability to achieve any kind of long distance mileage.
Standard batteries are really not a good fit given the weight and the long charge times. On the other hand Lithium Ion are expensive. There is a new battery technology about to be launched that is a quick charge Lithium coming out and another system be developed by the guys at A1 in Boston that could be pretty impactful.
HP size probably needs to be a little larger given the drag coefficients, and the controller kits are starting to become readily available for conversion. My guess is that if you wait another year it will be a lot cheaper and a lot more efficient.
