Welding sheet metal
I have seen on some of the threads that when you are replacing sheet metal it's good to leave a 1/16 of a gap between the metals. Is this for a better weld/alignment. Thanks

Re: Welding sheet metal
its for complete penetration. Dont do this if you are using a flux they burn to hot and will blow through or blow out. Thats from my experience. the best option is to use gas, but im cheep and have got good with flux. Also what are you butt welding. if it is a piece that will have a lot of stress do a lap weld and use plug welds on the over lap. Im not a pro by any stretch but this is what I have learn from experience. Others Please chime in.

Re: Welding sheet metal
Thanks for the info. I'm using a miller mig 220v with ar/c02 mix. I have filled in my gas tank hole in the cab. I'm about to replace my rockers/etc. I was just wondering.

Re: Welding sheet metal
Gas makes a cleaner weld, I do know that and less splatter. The gas also helps from the weld blowing thru.
