If the decks of the block havent been cut, the tin shim gasket will give you a better quench distance.......however, if you arent sure if the decks are real flat GM puts out a .o28 thick composition gasket that would be better for sealing, & still keep the quench distance "liveable". ideallly, the quench should be in the .040-.o45 range, but in the real world ,you can live with a little more. anything over .060 on the quench will give you fits, but on a 9-9.5 comp ratio, you can live with .050-.055. good luck,crazyL
