Header wrap Good or Bad

is it good or bad. I have alot of heat under the hood and was wondering if it works or not. And if so would you go with 1/16 or an 1/8 inch.

Is the heat causing you a problem?

Re: Header wrap Good or Bad

While it is good and does what its meant to do lowering underhood temps, It depends on if you have ceramic type coated headers or rust pipes.

If you dont have coated headers the wrap will actually speed up the headers rust problem and youll soon be loosing chunks of header pipes as they rust to nothing.
Atleast thats been my expeirance with it.

I use them on the exhaust pipe from the collectors back to the mufflers. Helps to keep the heat from the pipes off of the floor. My little feet don't get so hot in the summer now.

the stuff works to cure a few issues, however, if it is a street driven daily driver, it's not a good idea due to the rust issue mentioned above.

Re: Header wrap Good or Bad

I have my headers wraped now. when I pull this motor next week the wrap WILL NOT go back on, Its a pain in the butt! Along with the rusting issue if you happen to spill anything on them like oil you cant really clean it And then it will smoke really bad for along time.

Re: Header wrap Good or Bad

I ran Thermo Tec header wrap on a set of 1 3/4" Hooker Super Comp headers for 10 years. The stuff worked great with cooler underhood temps and no more burnt wires. To the best of my knowledge rust was not a problem however I lived in a very dry climate at the time. I also used the manufacturers own line of spray paint to preserve them. My only complaint was the fraying around the header bolts. It started to look kinda shabby.

DEI also makes this, it's a silicone based spray.
