New acquistion - 82' short bed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Greetings All. As I new member, I wanted to reach out and show some pictures of my latest acquistion. It is an 82' Short Bed. It is kind of rough but, will make a nice summer project. All this was had for $ 500.00. Thanks,

Interesting cab color scheme. Another one saved from the scrape yard!!

Yes Sir...........The Brown Hornet may be ugly right now but, she has good bones. Considering the amount of rust on the outside, her floor pans look great (no rust). The drive train is very strong (she is running a non orginal Olds 350) with a TH350 tranny. When I am finished, she should look very nice sitting next to my restored 68' Camaro............

Now you sound like my kinda guy...68' camaro and a 82' square body...I have an 82' I am working on and have a 01' SS Camaro and use to have a 68" Camaro. We have good taste!...LOL

Indeed......it took me about (2) months to find this square body. Nice to see some Louisiana boys on here. My Dad was reared up in Monroe. Still wish I had that 76' Stingray I sold to buy and engagement ring for my wife.......

welcome to the site. I have an 82 myself and have had several others of this genre over the years, Mine was in as bad a shape when i got it and although i aint much better now it still has some progress... keep us updated

I tell ya, I Have only had mine for a month or so and have really enjoyed it so far. Cars and trucks these days are so complicated that you have to be a master mechanic to work on them. These old square bodies are a lot easier to work on, there are tons of parts out there for them and above all, they are just cool looking. I have started redoing my interior my self and just ran across a nice steel cowl hood at a salvage yard for $75 bucks (they are about $400+ in all my catalogs, new). Fixing these up can be a lot of fun, especially when you get deals like that!

I am going to try and fix it up as much as time and money will allow. I have a 14th month old daughter at home who is occupying most of my time on the weekends. 1st off, I need to replace the exhaust system so I can pass my state inspection here in Virginia. I guess I will be searching the boards and spending alot of time in the local junkyards looking for parts......

good find there. i just found out today the one i'm trying to buy passed inspection. the owner called today and i should pick it up saturday. i see you're about an hour or so from me. did you grow up in louisiana or just your dad? i grew up in new orleans.

Yeah I understand where you have to do a little at a time. The important thing is to not get discouraged when it's not coming along as fast as you had hoped. Take your time, and always make time for the kiddos! The forum here is invaluable for saving time and money on projects, and searching for used parts will also stretch the dollar, and make lots of progress. Keep us updated!!!

Special Thanks to RonnietheBull for setting me up with the doors off of his 77' Parts truck. I looked high and low and my local junkyard and the guy wanted $ 150.00 per door. Now I need to start stripping the paint off of the donor doors and fenders and getting them primed and ready. Since the Brown Hornet is emissions exempt in Va. due to its age, that factory catalytic converter is coming off to be replaced by a header back dual exhaust system

that will save you tons of prepwork in the end because a good exhaust will shake all the rust right out!
