Re: 8 lug convert or leave it?
Around '97 ford changed their 8 lug bolt circle to a different size...something metric...and at some point around the same time they went to hub centric wheels, meaning the wheel was centered by the hub instead of by conical lug nuts.
That shouldn't be an issue for you if you get pre '97 wheels Before that all 8 lugs would interchange, you just need to check backspace Those caps Tony has are stock caps that go with those wheels.

I picked up this KMC 20" rim for free. But the backspacing was wrong. So I purchased the KMC Revolvers in all black.... Last edited by six5; 04-29-2009 at 01:45 AM. |

Re: 8 lug convert or leave it?
i don't know what year the wheels i have are... I can ask the guy i bought them from, but i don't know if he'd know. I can get a pic up of the wheels if he doesn't know. I'm assuming they'd be older than 97' though being that the guy doesn't have anything newer than early 80's... he's stuck in another generation.

Re: 8 lug convert or leave it?
Hey Pro the rims won't be released for a month. So I won't actually have them in my possession until the end of May. But they will be worth the wait..... |

Re: 8 lug convert or leave it?
I guess I wouldnt shy away from an 8-lugger now.......I'd just leave 4 lugs off every wheel in case of a flat. Does that mean a Honda wheel will fit?

Re: 8 lug convert or leave it?
Going from 8 lug to 6 or 5 lug depends on the look you are going for with the truck.
Generally all or most 8 lug wheels will have a high (possative) offset, and big bulky center caps to cover the large 3/4 or 1 ton hub. 5 lug wheels generally have a lower offset with more options for a deep dish wheel, and more options with center caps that will sit flush with the face of the wheel. I am about to start a 5 lug swap on my '70 8 lug simply because there are more options for lowering it, and more options on wheels. I can agree that there are more options for 8 lug than there was before (I work at a tire shop), but whenever I see them I think 4x4. My truck is a 2wd and I want to go this route to gain a 2wd sweet looking wheel, and disc brakes. |
