Re: Axle swap?
Well...I wouldn`t want 3.08s & o/d,even with stock sized tires, and especially with a 305.How does it drive now with 33s?On country roads,do you evn run in o/d?My`90 Blazer had 33s,350,and 3.08s.It was a 4spd manual and it was like having o/d.I used granny more than I ever would if it had lower gearing.
I`d want those axles for $500 if I had your truck. It would probably make more sense with 4.10s.But,with 35" tires and 4.56s you`ll be at about a 4.10 final ratio.Add in the o/d and you`re doing pretty good. There`s the weight and added rolling resistance to figure in compared to cars. So,you need some kind of grunt in the gears or the taller ratio will cost you in gas/wear`n`tear just getting going.Especially with a not-so-torquey motor.

Re: Axle swap?
your 86 rear is probly a 10bolt, yes?
So your buddy is getting a 14bolt and selling his "1/2ton" ? do you know what they are? Sounds like you need a 14bolt too ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Axle swap?
Special-K:
The 33s with the 3.08 is not by any means desired but isn't that horrible, she's by no means quick on takeoff but once you get her going she cruises very well. I usually will use o/d unless the road is pretty hilly. Yeah had I not found this deal from him 4.10s probably would have been my first choice to pair with the 35s. Ive heard of a few folks running 4.56s with them and not many complaints. Thanks for the help though, I'm leaning more towards doing it now ![]() Burt4x4: Yes, I've got 10 bolt front and rear and these axles are as well. He's turning his blazer into a rock crawler and wanted to go big or go home I guess hah. I would love to get ahold of a 14 bolt rear and a Dana 60 front but moneys too big a constraint for me.

Re: Axle swap?
Well I would getum then and run the higher gears, get some power back to the tires&ground. Plus your current axels will be a source for parts

Id buy them for $500 bucks its a steal.... Just figure: ring and pinion $200 a set/ youll need two sets... Install kits area $100 you need two.. figure a guy that knows what he's doin setting a rear up will want $400 a rear... I raen 4:56 in a truck i had I had 42's under for a while it was too mych tire for the gear.. Then I went back to a 35 for a while, it was a torque(y) set up... I then put a 39.5 Irok radial on and it was dead nut.. Youll be very happy with the 4:56's..... Last edited by silverpete; 06-05-2009 at 10:23 PM. |
