Gauge panel

Anyone ever see one like this before? A cousin of mine gave it to me, said it was in a truck he bought for parts. It has never been installed, and has autometer phantom gauges. It looks like it would have been done on a CNC or something, it is really detailed and doesn't look homemade to me.

Dat's pretty dope. Doesn't look like it was done in the typical garage to me!!

I wonder if the guy that did it ever realized the Chevy emblem was reversed on the dash cluster?

Re: Gauge panel

That was one of the first things my cousin told me, Your going to have to cover the bowtie on the gauge panel cause it's backwards.

WOW! Very nice indeed.

Wish I had a friend that would give me a $600+ full instrument gauge dash with matching glove box!

Re: Gauge panel

I plan to put a little chrome stick on bowtie over th e cutout.
I don't want to get rid of it, I think it looks pretty cool, I will sand it and pass acouple more coats of polyurathane. I think it will look really good in my truck when done.

Re: Gauge panel

Took the gauges out and sanded the woog down and sprayed a couple of coats of poly on them and they look great. Now I just need to finish the truck so I can put them to use.

Re: Gauge panel

I'm no woodworker and I'm not really sure but I "think" that wood is spalted maple. If so it is a very fine cabinetry wood and looks great used like that.

commonly called "tiger" or "flame" maple. Very expensive if you buy a piece of wood specifically for that character

Yes Maple it is. Curly or Tiger striped its normally called. The closer the stripes the more expensive. Pattern makers always would toss it aside because it was too hard to work.

Could have been made on a CNC could have been made on a Manual Machine. Could have been made with Hand Tools by a talented wood worker. Hard to say.
Its amazing what Mold, Pattern and Model Makers have done by hand through the years. Its actually not a hard piece to build.
