Well i picked up a great project it's a one owner California all original 1953 Chevy truck. Check it out its been sitting for the past 10 years has surface rust but other than that in pretty good shape!

Thanks.. i'm going to strip it and do a frame up restoration i'll keep it as original/stock as possible. I love the old school look of the 47-53 Chevy trucks.

it's very solid. When the original owner parked it back in the mid 90s it was running. The engine and trans are original, has about 160k on it. I'm going to yank both and rebuild the engine and most likey the trans as well. This is a 4 on the floor, it has the granny or stump puller gear.

You might consider a 235 swap if you want to keep the original look with a straight 6 rather than rebuilding the 216. It will give you a little more HP, and better oiling. Should use original motor mounts but you have to move radiator forward, or switch water pumps and pulley.

Luke what do you have in your 50? You have the original 216? I thought about changing it out however it is a numbers matching complete truck so I'll most likely rebuild the 216..

I have a 55-62 full pressure 235 in mine. Looks very similar to the 216. If you need to rebuild your motor I would save it and keep it in case you ever decide to do a perfect restoration. Sweet! Let me know how it turns out. I know there are few guys on either board that might be able to help you locate a motor...

Mine is being pulled currently to get freshend up! Cant wait to get it back on the road.

Actually I just found one, from the casting numbers looks to be late 50's. I may have some other questions later as well. By the way did you convert to 12 volt?

I bought the truck with the 235 already installed. But from speaking with the previous owner, it had been in the truck for some time and that it was always a 6v because he never felt a need to convert anything. I am looking to do it someday so I can run modern equipment- Alternator, stereo, brighter lights, etc. As I am sure you are. If I was starting from scratch more or less like you are, I would go right for the 12v conversion. There are some good How-to's out there that pretty much explain everything involved.
