I hear you, but it is logical that metal will not fatigue at a lower temp. The only reason engines started running hotter in the 70's and beyond was to enable them to run leaner than hell to pass smog. As stated below, most computers will compensate for the minute differences in air/fuel mixture between running at 195 and 160, or greater.

Here's my other "unconfirmed", probably half B/S theory: Let's say pulling a hill, loaded the truck will heat up by 20 - 30°. If you're already at 195, you've overheated. If you started the hill at 160 and ran it up even 40°, you're still ok... Again, very little science behind that thinking, but lots of logic.
