Cab lift....
Does anyone know if someone manufactures a bracket to attach to your engine hoist to lift a cab?

Re: Cab lift....
I thought that someone on this site makes one and sells them. You might do a search on the bodywork side of the forum.

Re: Cab lift....
Here's what I made to take my cab off. I bolted it to the top of my engine hoist. I then, with the doors off lifted the cab at the door jams. It worked really well.

Re: Cab lift....
Here is what I did, I took by engine lift and added a truck bed extender to the arm, fit just right, drilled a hole and took a hitch pin to lock it on and that gave me the reach to lift from above the cab with straps. Now you would know that the added length of the lift arm would make the rear of the hoist tip up, so I added old weights to the back to counterweight it. Works good.

Re: Cab lift....
A guy should be able to make a couple of steel brackets that would bolt to the end of the beam on the cherry picker engine hoist and be bolted securely to the middle of a 4x4.
Pull out the bolt that holds the chain and slip the lift arm in place and slip the bolt (or an appropriate length one) back in and you have a strong and secure cab lift bar. I usually use my "tree saver" strap that I bought because it said it was a tow strap but is actually what 4x4 guys put around a tree so their winch cable won't eat the tree. With that an a small chain hoist on each end up she goes. Not my truck cab but a photo from when I swapped roofs on my van. In this case I used my cherry picker on the front, the beam with a strap on the back, lifted the roof, rolled the doner van out of the way and rolled my van under the roof. Just in time to beat the snow storm It turned a "how the heck am I going to do this by myself" project into a pretty simple task. |

Re: Cab lift....
Four guys at each corner can lift a cab also. With the doors off and the seat out that cab is not the heavy.

Re: Cab lift....
I probably shouldn't mention it because it's by no means "stable", but the last three I've done have been with 2 stacked 2x6's balanced on the top of my cherry picker boom (stuck through the window of the cab) and resting on the tops of the doors...
When I get around to it, I'll build something that actually attaches to the cherry picker vs. balancing on it. In a pinch, however, this method has been successful for me.
