Who sells good lower trim clips (photo attached)
I am looking for some good clips for the lower wide trim. Attached is a photo of what I have found so far. The silver one on the left came with some chrome that I got from one vendor. It will work but I am hoping to find original type. The black center clip came with my complete trim package. The black one also came with a set that another board member got from another vendor. It is identical to what you get when you order a GM part #342999. Notice it is about 1/8" (the correct length is 4") shorter than the others and unless it is perfectly centered, will not hold one edge of the chrome. It will not work and as far as I am concerned, is junk. The green one on the right is an original piece off of my '72. Does anyone sell the correct green part anymore?

I have not been able to find the correct ones new, so I have been refinishing the old ones and using them. You might try the parts board to see if you can buy used ones.

things I've never thought about
This is interesting subject. I wonder because some vendors are selling trim from different manufacturers that the trim clips they sell should match up to the trim they sell. Next question is how is the fit into the stock holes in sheet metal?
I would like the vendors to come back on this subject. One of thee days I'm going to bite the bullet and drop some dough on this stuff and don't like unexpected hassles.

Try a local auto paint / body supply store...there's one out in Mesa, AZ called Space Age Paints, and last I was in there (a few years ago now) I think they still had those green clips.
One thing you might be interested in, though, and that I've heard of people doing, is dumping the clips altogether and using adhesive...

The black ones are what came with mine, and yes they suck. I looked at cleaning up my originals but didn't like the idea of putting rusty metal against fresh paint. My solution was to turn the black ones at an angle so that they went all the way across the trim and used a small screwdriver to put a little kink in the trim on the backside so that they could not move from that position. You can't see when it is installed and I have been thru the power carwash at the gas station many times with no problems

Thanks for the tip Project1970. I went to a professional automotive paint supply store and they carry one that is very similar to the green one. The spring attaches differently but it does have the same green finish and it is the full 4" tall. They are about $2 each, maybe less in quantity. It will lock into the chrome piece without sliding around or popping out.

The second photo looks exactly like the ones that I just took back to GM dealer today. Measured from end-to-end they are 3 7/8" long-they don't work well. The first photo is of a style I hadn't seen yet. Are they about an 1/8" longer than the others?

The short one is like the ones I returned-too short to work correctly. The other is too long, but would probably work. I will probably go ahead and order some from the paint house. Thanks for posting the picture.
