Cleaning frame?
What is the best way to clean off 40 years of greese,and gunk ect.. off ? I've tried purple power and such degreasers,but they don't seem to strip the gunk off very well. oven cleaner,gas???? is there some product that you could spray on and then rinse off with a water hose? thanks

I used the suggestion of a few people on here- dollar store oven cleaner- my formerly greasy SM 465 is now clean enough to eat off of.(and it smells like lemons!)
I'll be hitting the steering box,suspension and engine compartment with the stuff shortly.

You really need a pressure washer.
40 + year old gunk just won't give up without a fight. D.S. Oven cleaner is great, just be careful of fumes, overspray and splash. gloves and glasses are a must.

retodd7711 is right, you will want to use a power washer. I used an industrial degreaser from Home Depot. It is strong and works well. Carefull though, I used it to degrease the back of my polished rims and the degreaser staind the rims! Keep it away from chome!!

It will help if you scrape off most of the really thick dirt, grease and grime first. Then go after it with a degreaser or oven cleaner and a power washer.

Wide blade screw driver, putty knife, scraper and have a catch pan for the big chunks. Jack her up in the air, use stout jack stands and block in the wheels that remain on the ground. Using de-greaser on a job it's not really designed for is an economic and environmental waste. Mac.
